Capability Statement
Value Statement
I am eager to work as an epidemiologist or as a public health analyst at the entry-level position in the National Institute of Health (NIH, 2023). In transitioning to the position of epidemiologist as a dental surgeon and a public health student, my guiding principles are to improve population health outcomes through evidence-based research and treatment objectives. With a strong background in health care and a commitment to preventive medicine, i bring a unique perspective to epidemiology, recognizing the importance of dental health for overall well-being. My dedication to ethical behavior and justice in health care drives me to address health disparities and advocate for marginalized groups. As leaders in a business have a big impact on workplace ethics because they set the bar and model ethical behavior for the rest of the workforce (Provis, 2023). I strive to use my clinical knowledge and analytical skills to study disease trends, identify risk factors, and create initiatives aimed at disease prevention and health promotion. Through collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning, I am committed to making a significant contribution to public health and, ultimately, to a better and fairer future.
Social, Cultural and Intellectual Capital
My social capital is made up of a wide variety of networks of community individuals, researchers, and healthcare professionals (dentists), which enhance my interaction and engagement with public health initiatives, contributing towards my learning. For a public health intervention, this network of people who work together and share knowledge is beneficial to me. Working with a diversity of communities has heightened my cultural awareness of sociocultural factors of health, which has allowed me to effectively customize treatments (Hutchison & Bressi, 2021). In keeping with the benevolence and non-maleficence philosophies, i made sure that research approaches were clear and that information was kept private (Stoff, 2021) My participation in a community health effort intended for migrant groups in culturally diverse Australia. The code of ethics supports good patient care and service delivery within an ethical framework, which helps in keeping the public safe, and also because of the sensitivity of cultural norms and values, which we had to respect as they can impact the network and interaction with patients (Ahpra & National Boards, 2023) . Through the utilization of numerous types of capital, I expand my efficacy as a healthcare practitioner, supporting complete approaches to healthcare delivery that attend to social, cultural, and cognitive characteristics (Yinusa & Faezipour, 2023).

Area of Expertise
Considering that public health professionals made it feasible, I was able to learn more during my master of public health journey than I had previously known with incorporating ideas focusing on patient centered approach. Their guidance in various realms, which became my area of expertise such as:
-
Tender application
A detailed tender application for the construction of a new landfill for waste management in the Dadumajra community.
A budget of $1071,500 was introduced in the tender application for a 3-year project plan.
2. Risk assessment and stakeholder analysis
Used the risk matrix risk analysis tool and the stakeholders involvement for the inspection of hazards or injuries and their chances of occurrence by analyzing the risk level in workplace settings.

3.Literature review
A literature review on the effect of racism and poor socio-economic status on Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders was performed.
4.Policy brief
Recommendation and implications of various policy options to tackle the issue of poor socio-economic status and racism among Indigenous Australians.
5.Community consultation with involved stakeholders
The interaction between patients and dentists in dental camp settings leads to customized treatment options and relative advice.
6.Critical appraisal
Critically comprehended the qualitative study of child nutrition and oral health in El Salvador based on ontological, epistemological, methodological, and ethical considerations.
7.Logic model
Health promotion intervention strategies are used to inform people in Dadumajra about the proper disposal of garbage to reduce its effects on health outcomes.
8.Research and evidence-based practice
Epidemiological data from surveys, sampling, and analysis was used to find the disease trend and risk factors to guide positive health outcomes for patients in community dentistry.
Throughout my studies, I have learned more about empathy-based communication, patient-centered involvement, and healthcare policies. This has really impacted me and will help me cultivate the principles that epidemiologists must have.
Connection to field
-
My involvement in research projects and health policies enabled me to learn about the effectiveness of Australian policies, which are influenced by social determinants of health, to promote health and wellbeing for all (Department of Health and Aged Care, 2019).
-
By participating in the critical appraisal assessments, I was able to use the research evidence effectively and consistently.
-
The collection of data by surveys using sampling techniques and the use of a risk matrix tool has collaboratively led me to understand the efficacy of predicting the effectiveness of the disease trend impact and measures that can be taken.
-
With my current job position as a dental assistant since 2022, this opportunity has given me good insights on different disease patterns and risk factors for disease prevention. For example, my involvement in dental practice helped me to understand the integrity and ethical implications of patient-centered care.
This knowledge highlights my ability to use a variety of multidisciplinary approaches and numerous methodologies to advance information and guide evidence-based resolutions in the field of public health.
Strength and Weakness
-
Regarding my previous and ongoing health studies, I have developed a patient-centered approach. For example, good communication with patients by showing empathy for them has improved my abilities over time and turned into a strength(Yanjiao et al.,2023).
-
The ability to evaluate the data throughout the master's degree, either by doing research proposals, critical analysis, projects, tender applications, or even during community engagement camps, has taught me analytical skills.
-
My understanding of health-related issues, healthcare delivery, insights into patient care, disease prevention and management, and epidemiological skills have all enriched mewith clinical expertise.
I have vigorously looked for growing potential, as I understand how significant it is to uninterruptedly recover. For instance, when I became aware of a flaw in my presentation aptitudes, I joined a Toastmasters group and participated in public speaking seminars after realizing that my awarding aptitudes needed enhancement (Toastmasters, 2018).
Feedback and reflection are the major sources of improvement, which shows the area of concern sometimes. I overthink some aspects, which impact my decisions, as it slows down my mental capacity to understand and learn. Currently, I am focusing on taking a step back by distracting myself from un-necessary thoughts and focusing towards problem solving, for which I have also taken a short course on growth mindset tips.
Conclusion:
During the course of my Master's in Public Health, I have learned a great deal about both individual and community abilities. I have also developed my expertise in research, critical thinking, risk analysis, policies, and logic models. In addition to receiving comments, thinking back on what I had learned eventually aided in my development both personally and professionally with the blend of ethical decision making, role of epidemiologist for National Institute of Health .
